What is a palindrome total?
A palindrome is a number that reads the same forwards and backwards. For example, $52.25 is a palindrome because "5225" reads the same in both directions. By making your bill total a palindrome, you create a simple way to verify your charges later.
How does this protect me from tip fraud?
When you write a tip that makes your total a palindrome, you can easily check your bank statement later. If the charge isn't a palindrome, you know the amount was altered. No need to keep paper receipts or remember exact amounts.
How do I use the app?
- Enter your bill amount (pre-tip total)
- Set your preferred tip percentage range
- Choose from the suggested palindrome totals
- Optionally scan your receipt and save it for your records
What's included in the free version?
The free version includes full access to the palindrome calculator. You can save up to 3 receipts with scanned images and location data. After that, upgrade to the Full Version for unlimited receipt saving.
How do I restore my purchase?
If you've previously purchased the Full Version and need to restore it (for example, on a new device):
- Open PalindReceipt
- Tap the upgrade prompt or go to Settings
- Tap "Restore Purchases"
Your purchase is linked to your Apple ID and can be restored on any device.
Why does the app request location access?
Location access is optional and used only to tag your receipts with the venue name and location. This can help you remember where a transaction occurred. Your location data is stored only on your device and is never sent to any server.
Why does the app request camera access?
Camera access is used for the document scanner feature, which lets you photograph your receipts. Scanned images are stored locally on your device and included in PDF exports. They are never uploaded anywhere.
Where is my data stored?
All your data is stored locally on your device. We don't have servers that collect or store your information. When you delete the app, all data is removed from your device.
Can I export my receipts?
Yes! Tap on any saved receipt to view its details, then use the share button to export a PDF containing the transaction details and scanned receipt image.
Troubleshooting
The app isn't finding any palindrome totals
Try expanding your tip percentage range. Very small bills or very narrow tip ranges may not have palindrome totals available. The app searches for palindromes within your specified tip range.
My purchase isn't being recognized
Try these steps:
- Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the purchase
- Tap "Restore Purchases" in the app
- Check your internet connection
- Restart the app
If the issue persists, contact us at support@palindreceipt.com with your Apple ID email and approximate purchase date.
The document scanner isn't working
Ensure you've granted camera permission to PalindReceipt in your device's Settings app. Go to Settings > PalindReceipt > Camera and make sure it's enabled.
Location isn't being detected
Check that location services are enabled for PalindReceipt in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. The app needs "While Using" permission to tag receipts with location.
